A HEARTFELT THANKS

A story about our rescue published in The Wichita Eagle this past Saturday, and the story was also on FOXnews.com. We have had an overwhelming response - and it's been so great! Thank you to everyone who came out to the rescue over the weekend. We received donations of cash, hay, and also some people interested in adding one of our rescues to their family. We have also received online donations through PayPal. Thank you all so much for opening up your hearts to help our equine friends in need. Sending lots of nuzzle muzzles your way!! :)

I'M BACK

Hey All,

Sorry for not keeping up on the blog. Things have been hoppin' at the rescue. We have several new residents - and they are available for adoption.

A few of the newbies... Nala, a beautiful light bay mare. She is a nine year old QH cross, and is gaited. She is suitable for an intermediate rider.

Also available is six year old Slim. He is a gray flea-bitten Arab cross, and quite handsome. He is not broke to ride, is a very sweet guy. Due to some dominance issues, he will probably need to go to a home where he is the only horse.

And a special request to anyone who can help... with winter quickly approaching, we are in great need of square bales of brome and/or prairie hay. If you, or someone you know, has any you would like to donate it would be greatly appreciated. If you can help, please call Ande at (316) 519-4129. THANK YOU!!

VALLEY CENTER FALL FEST

Hey all!!

Come by and see us at the Fall Fest today if you happen to be out and about, or just looking for something to do. Boo, Chase, Jim, Playgirl, and Tip are all there giving rides. And Burrito (our little donkey), Dazzle, Duke, Magic (miniature that the itty bitty kids are enjoying sitting on), and Thunder (former rescue... now happily adopted)are all there for you to see too. We'll be there 'til dark, or when things start winding down. We are at the corner of 1st and Park.

:)

And thanks to everyone who has already been by. We always enjoy seeing you.

NAMES

Good news!! I now have names to tell you... our precious little Mini is Molly, and our sweetheart of a donkey is Burrito.

I do believe we have someone interested in Molly. And Burrito I think is going to be just perfect for the festivals and things we travel to. The next one coming up that I know of is the fall festival in Valley Center... mid-September I think it is.
Stay tuned for more details.

More updates forthcoming... sooner, rather than later... I hope. :)

I hope everyone has a great weekend!!

CATCHING UP

Hey all,

I have been lagging on blogging lately and I apologize. Things have been busy busy and I just haven’t been keeping y’all updated.

We have a few new resident’s at the rescue. Beauty, a black QH mare; a precious mini; and the sweetest little donkey. I’m embarrassed to say that I don’t even know the names of the mini, or the donkey.

Lady, the sorrel mare (Star’s mama), who had been at the trainer for 30-days is back at the rescue now. She will need another 60-90 days of training, but she has definitely come a long way.

In sad news, we lost one of our volunteers this week. Lynn Mariucci, a wonderful lady who was full of love and compassion, passed away as a result of complications from leukemia treatment. The horses will definitely miss her. She had been studying equine massage therapy, and enjoyed studying Parelli horsemanship as well.

I hope everyone has a nice weekend, and that the rain stays away long enough to get outside and horse around.

SHE'S A LADY

I made a trip to the trainer's place on Monday evening to see him work with Lady. She is coming along nicely. She'll be there another two to three weeks. Cynthia, another volunteer the rescue, and her husband also went. Cynthia and I both enjoyed seeing Lady, in some ways she was a different horse. I've always known she was a girl with a big heart, but to see her being so affectionate and responsive to the trainer was so touching. Granted she does still need some work, but he said she is doing really well. The work he did with her Monday evening was 100% better than the previous time he worked with her he said. He also said he thinks that given time she might make someone a really nice horse. I'm excited to go out and see her again.

THANK YOU

Thanks to all who came out to the Frontier Western celebration in ElDorado yesterday and stopped by to see us. The kids enjoyed the $2 horse rides... and we had several repeat customers too. One dad even asked if I knew where the ATM was. :)
We had lots of people ask how they could volunteer, others made cash donations. We also had one very nice couple from Butler County ask how they could get involved. They have some hay they'd like to donate to the rescue. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! It is because of the generosity of all you great people out there that the rescue is able to operate.
I will be posting some pictures to our website later today, or sometime tomorrow, but in the meantime... let me leave you with this picture of Dazzle, one of our rescues. She very much enjoyed sunbathing and catching some zzz's. Yes... she really is napping in this pic.

EVENING GRAZE

Was able to get out and take some pics tonight - this is one of my faves

And this one too... Star. Her mama, Lady, is currently at the trainer for 30 days. Star is an absolute sweetheart, and a beautiful girl. Definitely looks like she is going to be big and solid like her mama. She is already yearling size... but is only around six months old (sorry, I'm not sure of her actual birthdate).

PATIENCE...

Still haven't been able to publish the updated website. Customer service at the webhost company told me 48 hours ago that it'd be 24-48 hours before the problem on their end was fixed. Sad thing... I'd already been trying for the 48 hours prior to that. So... hang in there... I'll get them published as soon as they fix the problem. :(

STUD COLTS

We will soon have a few new residents at the rescue... stud colts. I'll post more information about them as soon as I have some. What I do know is that they will be at the rescue for 30 days... and ready for adoption. If you have ever wanted to start out with a colt and do all the training yourself... here's your chance. Email us and we'll get you more information!

WELCOME

Hey All...

We are in process right now of updating our website... http://www.hopeinthevalleyequinerescue.org/. None of the changes have actually published on the site yet, but... hopefully will within the next week or two.

While revamping the website, I decided to start this blog as well. Not sure how often I'll have a chance to post to this, but... I'm hoping to do so weekly at a minimum. As the website changes, feel free to offer any suggestions. We'd love to hear from ya!!
